Proud parents Mary and Gerry Stevens were delighted to see their son return to the premiership after Sheffield United were promoted back to the top tier for the first time since 2007
Their son Enda who plays at left back scored four times in the last six matches to help in their drive for automatic promotion when they overtook Leeds United in the final few matches. His performances earned him the Championship Player of the Month award for April.
Mary, his mother, whose maiden name is Delaney is from Newtown in Kinnitty and still has several cousins in the locality. She moved to Dublin where she met her husband Gerry. They got married in the 80’s and had three children, Elaine, Sinéad and Enda.
Enda who transferred to Aston Villa from Shamrock Rovers in 2012 is also a regular on the Irish Senior team. After his move to Villa he learned the hard way that you have to be at the top of your game to make it in the premiership and for a few years he struggled to settle into the English game but things took a turn for the better when he joined Portsmouth and then Sheffield United in 2017.
People in Kinnitty are always proud to hear of any success that people have, especially when they have links with the parish and they wish Enda all the best in his soccer career. Perhaps he will even get a few locals changing their allegiance and shouting for the Blades next season!
